2022 Siwa Chardonnay

The appearance is straw with green tinges. The aroma shows fruit notes of grapefruit, cantaloupe and green apples. Flint notes combine with carefully integrated oak tones of cashew and lightly toasted brioche. Tones of honeysuckle and lime add an elegant layer of complexity. While quite elegant, this wine has a dense, textural element which culminates on the finish, providing length and generosity. The wine will further improve 3 – 5 years from vintage.

"Whole-bunch pressed to a single, 1-year-old French puncheon where it went through a natural mlf. Bottled unfined and unfiltered. A subtle wine with its scents of peach skin, orange blossom and hazelnuts. The palate is still quite tightly wound, but it's saline and nicely persistent, too."

This Chardonnay has been harvested from our “Siwa” vineyard – the home vineyard of Kellybrook Winery in the Yarra Valley. Siwa is the original name that Alfred Kelly gave the Kellybrook property on Fulford Road at Wonga Park that he and Inez bought in back in 1935. He named it such because of its beauty and sense of peacefulness which was like that of the Egyptian Oasis called Siwa in the Western desert where he rested during the Second World War. We have named our vineyard, planted in 1975, “Siwa”, in honour of this history.

Drink this wine with rich and hearty dishes, such as French-style roasted chicken with a butter and thyme sauce resting on roasted root vegetables, or spice roasted pumpkin, shallots, walnuts and Persian fetta. The wine shall further improve 3 – 5 years from vintage.
