Winemaking and Tasting Notes

This Chardonnay has been harvested from the ‘Siwa’ vineyard and is a small-batch selection of our best Chardonnay from the cool 2023 vintage. While the season had its challenges with rain, and cold temperatures, a lengthy dry, warm spell 6 weeks from harvest meant we completed the harvest period under ideal conditions.

After being handpicked, the wine was whole bunch pressed to French oak for a natural fermentation.

After this, the wine sat on lees (solids) for 10 months and malolactic fermentation was allowed to take place. The vast majority of the blend was selected from a second-use French puncheon (500L barrel), and after being aged in oak for 10 months, the wine was bottled unfiltered in January 2024.

On the nose there are notes of lime, grapefruit with creamy tones from the malolactic fermentation. Quince and peaches show with hints of dried fennel.

The palate is soft and approachable. Peach, lime and honeysuckle combine with lactic tones to give inviting fruit sweetness. There are savoury notes of almond meal with integrated hints of oak char and spice. The finish is round and inviting, relying on fruit generosity.

The wine shall further improve 3 – 5 years from vintage.
