Willowlake Chardonnay

Description

The grapes for this wine were sourced from the Willowlake vineyard in Gladysdale. The site is exceptional and produces elegant Chardonnay with discernible, unique qualities.

On the nose, there are notes of peach, pear, fleshy red apple skin with papaya notes over wafts of vanilla seed-laced cream. Citrus characters of lemon and mandarin show under gunflint and lifted white floral tones. A freshly cut straw character envelopes all of the complexities in the aromas as tropical notes provide ongoing interest.

The palate follows through with all complexities of the aroma. Peach and tropical notes are once again wrapped up in the soft cream tones with butter and citrus notes akin to lemon meringue pie. Lightly buttered popcorn, cut straw, almond meal with subtle clove and sweet cinnamon spice dance around the background. The acid envelops and depicts a rain-over-slate note which moves into the long and very precise finish - carried out by buttery, Meyer lemon and sweet-spice notes.

This wine will most certainly improve with further time in bottle. Best drinking windows can be said to be 2 – 4 years after vintage and the more patient taster will be rewarded waiting 7+ years.
